Thinking Out Loud

Meatless Mondays in the Office?

By Keryn Nicolson

Okay, so I know I am the resident vegetarian here and this is probably not going to come as a surprise that I think offices should encourage a meatless Monday. I don’t even know who started #MeatlessMonday but there’s something that rhymes for every day of the week so why not?

Now that there is backing from the World Health Organization in that processed meats are directly linked to metabolic disorders and other diseases, I don’t think it’s a ridiculous proposition to encourage and support staff to collectively cut down on their meat consumption by participating in a social movement of sorts, right?

What if offices encouraged a Meatless Monday recipe competition? Every week staff could sign up to participate with incentives of prizes to the winners. This way it would give team members the opportunity to try various meatless dishes, encourage creativity, healthy competition and it's something new.

There are a lot of ways to incorporate protein in your diet without eating meat. I'm tooootally not opposed to those that DO eat meat, I just think our American culture eats too much. Let's start thinking about prevention of disease rather than just treatment.

Thinking of giving it a try? Here are some great plant based blogs to check out:
