Thinking Out Loud

Is Fresno joining the hyper local movement?

By Theagarajan_CML

Is it just me, or has Fresno really started to make some big moves in supporting this hyper local movement? Think about it: why do you want to visit some cities versus others? I know for me personally, I like to visit a place that feels unique. “When people go on vacation they generally seek out destinations that offer them the sense of being someplace, not just anyplace.” ~ Richard Moe, President, National Historic Preservation Trust

Here are several reasons it benefits not just your community but you personally, to buy local:

Keeps our community unique: Fresno’s one of a kind businesses are an integral part of what makes Fresno, Fresno. They give the city its character (which usually benefits tourism—if any).

Reduces carbon footprint/environmental impact: Usually locals buy from other locals thus in turn reducing transportation, reducing urban sprawl, pollution, etc.

Better service: I don’t know about you but when I visit a local establishment I always get better service. They know their products, their communities and usually want to talk with you and welcome feedback.

Put your hard earned taxes to good use: I am a big believer in revitalization in a way that can preserve history yet welcome in the future. As opposed to investing in new infrastructure, why not make use of existing historical buildings? I’m not city planner by any means and I’d imagine depending on the city there can be a lot of red tape to cut through but hey…seems to make at least some sense right?

Let’s take pride in our community. After all, it’s where we call home.
